The United Grand Priories of the Hospitaller Order of Saint Lazarus has always recognized the importance of guiding and educating young men and women by means of extra-curricular activities and other characteristics embodied within the Scout and Girl Guide Movements worldwide. Indeed, a number of the Order’s Grand Officers and Officers are also past and present Scouts and Girl Guides themselves. Within the UGP’s international affiliation of around 14,000 members, more than 3,500 of these are, or were, active Scouts and Girl Guides within the various international organizations of the latter. Internally within the Order, these members refer to themselves as Lazarite Scouts or Lazarite Girl Guides, an adjective which is used without appellations to the various national and international Scout and Girl Guide Associations of which the United Grand Priories holds the greatest esteem and has honored their leaders in various ceremonies around the world. Several Grand Priories and delegations of the Order have excellent relations with the national Scouting and Girl Guide bodies within the jurisdictions in question.
