Background and Description

 

In October 2004, the Saint Lazarus Hospice Foundation was officially launched.  The aim is to channel, through this non-governmental structure, all the Hospitaller work of the Order.  The Foundation will focus on Hospice related charity, as is consistent with the Order of Saint Lazarus of Jerusalem.

 

Approval of Constitution and Board of Governors.

 

The Constitution of the Saint Lazarus Hospice Foundation was fully approved by the members of the Grand Priory of the Mediterranean at the Annual Investiture of the Grand Priory on the 26th of February 2005. The Constitution was duly notarised and registered on the 20th of July 2005.

 

As per the articles of Constitution, the Foundation operates by means of a Board of Governors. The Board of Governors for the period 2005 - 2008 are as follows:

Secretary of the Board of Governors:

Officers of Commanderies from Malta, England and Italy meet up with the

Master General of the Order and the Reciever General of the United Grand

Priories for a brain storming session regarding the setting up of the Saint

Lazarus Hospice Foundation.

 

 

Donations

 

Your financial assistance is welcomed by this registered charitable organisation, whether you are a current member of the Order of Saint Lazarus or not.  The Foundation is operated by volunteers and your donation will go directly to those in need.

Annual Statements

 

January 2004 – February 2005 Statement

 

Total donations: 9340 GBP

 

This amount was collected from the Commanderies and distributed directly by the Commanderies and Grand Priory.

 

1776 GBP was sent by our Grand Priory to the United Grand Priories for their disposal in charitable causes.

 

The amount of 9340 GBP was distributed as follows:

 

  • Tsunami Relief Aid.
  • Community Chest Fund of Malta
  • Tiny Infants Parent Support Group
  • The Cathedral Chapter of Gozo
  • The Cathedral Choir Group
  • Victoria Scout Group
  • Sisters of Charity
  • Manresa House – Jesuit Meditation Centre
  • Dublin Lukemia Hospice, Ireland
  • Guatemala project led by Father Anton to construct education and sanitary needs for the impoverished region
  • Specific families in need brought to the attention of the Grand Priory by the members themselves

 

February 2005 – October 2006 Statement

 

Total donations: 11, 927 GBP

 

This amount was collected from the Commanderies and from the Saint Lazarus Hospice Foundation National Lottery which was organized during the period in question. Out of this amount, the Foundation will be setting aside the amount of 6,500 GBP which will go for the registered prizes of the National Lottery.

 

This means, that, to date, the Saint Lazarus Hospice Foundation will have distributed the amounts of 14,767 GBP to various philanthropic and charitable organizations, including the administration of the Foundation itself.

 

A further 2400 GBP was sent by our Grand Priory to the United Grand Priories for their disposal in charitable causes.

 

The amount of 14,767 GBP was distributed as follows:
